Governor Wayne is a native of Galax.  He graduated from Galax High School and went on to attend East Tennessee State College in Johnson City for two years.  When his funding ran out, he got a job at Cape Canaveral and was sent to San Salvador where he worked for eight months on the space program.  He then enlisted in the Army, and, following basic training was sent to Ft. Lee where he played in the Army Band.  He then worked eight years in Hopewell for Allied Chemicals as a chemist.  He was recruited by Brenco Bearings in Petersburg and worked there for eleven years.  

       Overnight Transportation called him to work for them in national sells.  He traveled around the United States starting up many new terminals for the company.  For the past 21 years he has worked in sells for Delta Graphic, Inc. of Chester.  He is their salesman for the western part of the state. 

        In 2001, Wayne and his wife, Lion Peggy, came back to Galax to live.  He first joined the Galax Lions Club, where he served as president for two years.  He has also served as Zone Chair for Region 3, Zone 1.  He served as 2nd VDG under PDG Bill Hall and 1st VDG under PDG Jan Bowling.  He was elected District Governor at the State Convention in Richmond in May of this year and has just returned from the International Convention in Seattle, Washington.  He and Peggy are now active members of the Hillsville Lions Club. 

       Wayne is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Galax where he sings in choir and teaches Sunday School.  He is also on the boards of the Galax Moose Lodge and Hope House, a homeless shelter in Galax.
